Gear for and on the Camino

You are definitely going to need some gear for a Camino. No doubt about it. While each pilgrim ends up with their own very specific load-out, we will try to provide you with some guidance to get you started.

Less is more! We cannot stress this enough. For days or perhaps months you will carry everything you need on your back. Making sure you pare down your load to the bare essentials is a vital part of a good camino experience.

Resist the urge to pack all of your “what if” worries in your pack. While you will be walking a trail for an extended amount of time, the Camino is not a traditional hiking experience. You will have daily, if not hourly opportunities to pick up anything you forgot or to replace broken items or exhausted supplies. Even the smallest villages have markets with food and toiletries, many have dedicated camino shops with superb equipment, and of course larger cities have everything you may need to pick up. Many bars and cafes have a small assortment of travel size toiletries and snacks for you to grab as you enjoy your lunch.

It comes as a surprise to many that the prices for supplies and equipment along the Camino are very reasonably priced. Very little gouging makes purchasing things along the way a real advantage.
